Day twenty-one…HAPPY BIRHTDAY EDURNE!!!!
Last Saturday of summer camp here at Fuente Alberche and it started with a bang! First and foremost by singing Happy Birthday to Edurne, followed by classics, new and old from the Rolling Stones to the Backstreet Boys, blaring through the hallways, the campers were quick to get up and get the day started. We made our way outside to get in a little morning run and stretch in and it was off to breakfast. Cake for breakfast?? I think so!! Shortly after, after preparing our bags and getting out picnic lunch, we loaded up the bus and made out way to Avila!
In Avila, there were proclamations of it being the best day of the kid’s lives, and that’s what we love to hear! Remembering the hydrate, and be in the shade as much as possible, which isn’t very easy up on the centuries old wall, was walked around this beautiful cities wall, getting a fascinating lesson in history and soaking up the stunning views all around. The campers were ecstatic by up there, and having just recently shot a bow and arrow, they were especially intrigued by all the defense mechanisms of the wall and the way the archers shot from those 12 meters high!
Under the shade of the trees, we had lunch in the park, followed by lots of chatting, Rubik’s cubes and Presi Presi. After a walk around the old town, we all got a sweet tooth so we made a pit stop for ice cream in the square. While we all enjoyed it, some of us got more on their faces than in their mouths! Check out the birthday girl with her besties!!
After some souvenir shopping, getting great memorabilia for ourselves and our lovely parents and grandparents, we hopped on the tourist train and got a great tour of Avila, even making a pit stop outside of the wall. Check out these great views!
This amazing day ended with an even better night. We had a BBQ feast out on the terrace with everyone, including our lovely hosts Floro and Aurora, s’mores for dessert along with candy and other birthday goodies from Edurne, and a dance party!
While some tears were shed with the idea of having to say goodbye the following day, the day still came to an end with smiles on our faces, ear to ear. Tonight we give thanks to one another for an amazing week but are so excited to see our parents tomorrow!
